Doing so could render Windows non-functional. Recently this has also been happening to W7, but only since M$ announced that w10 would be a free upgrade. Unplug it and plug it back in and it works fine again for a while. You should be able to go to C:\Program Files click on view/details and look at the dates of the last modified programs; anything suspicious there?
