NVidea had it's own GUI. XP will fit the same scenario after "Daddy" abandons it too. Ubuntu will work fine for most everybody, although Kubuntu may be more friendly for Windows users and Xubuntu is a good environment for readers with older, more underpowered computers. It should work fine.
