The problems seems software related not hardware. To do this, go back to the Device Manager, right-click on your touchpad, and click Uninstall. Things looked promising until I was able to cause freezing again inside Ubuntu using the, by now, famous "O" key on the keyboard?!?!?! Most infuriating!
I figured it was the Palm Check feature of the laptop's touchpad, meant to disable mice whilst typing fast. Haha. I eventually worked out I could mitigate the freezing by running the fan higher, seemed that the airflow helped prevent it, but I live in a hot place and this summer Their support is fantastic as well. weblink As noted above third party drivers are often a problem.

I just remembered a simple test which I hadn't done yet. After a long period of freezes arising out of screensaver mode, I tried disabling seti's access to the GPU and the freezes have completely stopped (for now?). I also have a mouse that I plug into USB and that wouldn't work either. I have gone from total freeze (mouse and keypad) to just a screen freeze that i can unlock by killing flash. It then freezes, everything!
