I was having this problem about a month ago and decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Vista. Does Norton systemworks cause problems? I have had mounds of trouble with the .NET framework and all its iterations. Going to the Guide also gives Critical Process Failure. Your cache administrator is webmaster. Hopefully this will allow you to install Update Rollup 2. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.2. More Bonuses
If reformatting during the re-install is not an option, you will need to try to remove the .NET Framework 2.0 using some other means. Reply HolgerG says: September 25, 2008 at 5:23 am Aaron, do you know a way to detect the presence of KB900325? (like WMP11 Setup does) Thanks, Holger Reply Aaron Stebner says: Hopefully this helps….. If you have a chance, could you please post more details about how you resolved it in case anyone else runs into a similar issue in the future?
If you cannot figure anything out by looking at the logs yourself, you can zip and send them to me at Aaron.Stebner (at) microsoft (dot) com and I can try to Thanks! THIS time it was something in the signal from my Set Top Box that screwed up Media Center. One of those might help better explain what is causing this install failure.

Reply James G says: March 28, 2006 at 5:30 am Hi Hope you can help me!! I had a very good working and configured MCE system untill I decided to upgrade my tuner card. I received an XBox 360 for Christmas. Finally, after days of work, I've got it loaded.
What other steps can I try to get Media Center working again? https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2006/02/17/troubleshooting-steps-i-use-for-media-center-component-registration-failure-errors/ Also, in the zip file, can you please include a screenshot of the exact error you see on your system when trying to run kb900325.exe on your system? Are there any entries in the application or system event logs on your system that might help narrow this down? As new documentation is created, I will continue to add to this article.
I know this isn't a hardware issue as I ran it fine on a virtual machine using VMWare; and I believe that neither Rollup 2 or the extender (either version - check my blog I've got three problems with the new setup: 1) When viewing streams from the AverMeida 180 receiver, the picture is shifted up, leaving about a 1 inch black bar at the Reply frecato says: December 19, 2007 at 6:07 pm Aaron- I have used your blog to fix other MCE problems in the past and you are always very helpful. Reply Aaron Stebner says: February 26, 2006 at 4:04 pm Hi Ryan - I am not sure what would cause a system crash at that stage of Media Center TV setup. This could happen if you install Update Rollup 2, install Windows Media Player 11, uninstall Update Rollup 2 and attempt to reinstall Update Rollup 2. Everything works just fine until I try to detect the set-top box.
I have the very latest ATI drivers for both the graphics adapter and TV tuner. Hyalp! Uninstalling & reinstalling the TV tuner (AVerMedia AVer TV Tuner) didn't do anything, either. Update Rollup 2 requires both of these be installed before it will install.
In cases where I see any of the above error messages in %windir%\medctroc.log, I use the following set of steps in the order listed below to manually un-register and re-register Media Thanks Reply section says: March 26, 2006 at 10:09 am hi, i have a toshiba qosmio G20 with MCE 05. I even download it from the inet. The difference in registry data type can affect detection depending on how the registry value is being retrieved and parsed. The blog post at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/10/16/481689.aspx contains a contact email address you can use to send them to me. Does this have anything to do with changing which drive the TV records to?

i get an error saying it had failed? "unable to install Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB900325)" Any ideas? So sometimes I guess it's not fair to blame Media Center for problems that crop up. I've searched the net for the last 2 weeks but no one anywhere mentions this particular situation.
